Myrtle Reichard receives Sigma Kappa 50 Year Membership Pin and Certificate

Myrtle receiving her 50 Year Membership Certificate
Myrtle Spires Reichard was born in Richmond, California. When she was in high school, her family moved to Gabbs, Nevada, and her father was a personal manager at the mine. However, she graduated from high school in Redding, California and briefly taught in a one room school house after receiving an emergency credential.

She attended Chico State for one year and then transferred to Indiana University of Pennsylvania where she majored in education. She joined Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Kappa in 1952. Her first teaching job after college was teaching high school home economics in a small Pennsylvania coal mining town.

Myrtle married Cliff Reichard in 1955 after dating him for nine years. They raised two girls and one boy who all live in northern California. After many years of military service prior to their marriage, Cliff became a government employee for the USDA/Forest Service. He moved his family first to Ogden, Utah and later to Quincy, California. Although Myrtle continued teaching for many years, in 1974 she changed careers. She and her husband both worked for the US Forest Service in Concord, California. Myrtle retired from her second career in 1992. She and Cliff settled in Fallon, Nevada in 1995 after visiting relatives and quickly finding a house they liked.

Since retirement Myrtle has become an avid crafter. She enjoys restoring and decorating "wonder horses" for children. She is also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Myrtle was a member of a Sigma Kappa Alumnae Chapter in Ogden, Utah and is a 2003 charter member of the Sierra Nevada Alumnae Chapter. While in college Myrtle remembers participating in parades and building floats with her Sigma Kappa sisters. She recalls that all the girls lived in the dorm or other campus housing and no one had a car!

On behalf of the Sierra Nevada Alumnae Chapter, I would like to present Myrtle Reichard with her 50 year pin and a certificate. Congratulations for being a loyal Sigma Kappa for not only 50 but 60 years!

Sincerely, Margee McCafferty
President- Sierra Nevada Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Kappa
